Schoology, our district purchased learning management system, offers educators ways to foster student self-paced learning with student completion rules and help learners reflect on their learning to set obtainable goals by tracking mastery.
Student Completion Rules
You can use student completion rules to create self-paced learning for students while still keeping structure in the flow of your class. Check out this Quick Win for how to set up completion rules in your Schoology courses.

Student Mastery Reporting allows educators to view student achievement on any standard or learning objective that has been aligned to Assignments, Test/Quiz questions, Assessment questions. or graded Discussions within a course.
Learners can also see their own objectives report. They can use this information to see where they have strengths and to set goals for areas that need growth. Click the buttons below to learn more about Student Mastery Reporting and learning objectives in Schoology.

Digital Citizenship week is October 15th-19th. One big part of digital citizenships is how we make relationships and communicate online. A great way to practice making safe digital relationships is by connecting online with other learners outside of your classroom. This week, the CISD Digital Learning Podcast episode is all about making classroom connections. During the episode my teammate, Trisha Goins, challenges listeners to complete a 6 step challenge. A great tool to help you complete the challenge steps is Flipgrid! Why Flipgrid?Flipgrid allows each of your learners a chance to share their learning through a video response on a topic. They can even do a little bit of app smashing and upload videos they have made in other apps to Flipgrid. Flipgrid connections are great because you can post your responses on your time and not have to worry about syncing up timezones or schedules. #GridPals
Flipgrid Explorer SeriesFlipgrid connects with experts who share their knowledge on topics in their field of work. They have worked with scientists, engineers, artists, and more! Each month, the featured explorer(s) create a series of launch-ready Disco Library topics for you to use. How you use the topics is completely up to you! To learn more about the Explorer Series you can go to the Disco Library on the teacher dashboard and search "flipgrid explorer series" or read page 17 in this Flipgrid eBook. Remember, elementary students are slowly learning about the world around them. They may not realize that a school across town is learning the same thing as them at the same time. Connections across the hall or across town are BIG connections to them. Using Flipgrid, you can start small and get more comfortable connecting with people outside of your classroom walls. Need help setting up your Flipgrid? Watch my Quick Win Video below! Happy connecting! |
