Creating, evaluating, and analyzing knowledge has a significant impact on student outcomes. After a district training on "Input, Innerput and Output" (you can read more about that here), and a collaboration session between my amazing colleagues Irene Boynton (@ireneb2011) and Amy Phillips, the Digital Workflow was created. Irene, a first grade teacher, had the perfect opportunity to begin using the digital workflow when she noticed that many of her learners were not reading and writing word wall words correctly or with fluency. So, after assessing the class, she assigned a digital project to be completed during Reading/Writing Workshop. It is easy to see how this goes beyond traditional writing words multiple times to learn them. Scholars created screencasts to practice words and teach words to their classmates. With practice, the digital workflow becomes a system that allows learners choice and creates engagement and a sense of ownership of their learning.

Looking for an opportunity for your learners to make global connections? Dot Day is your chance! What is Dot Day?International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe. Each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you –the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do. - TheDotClub.org Apple Clips & FlipgridDot Day provides us a wonderful chance to connect to learners around the district - and the globe - using the apps Clips and Flipgrid. Clips is an app similar to iMovie that will allow students to record as well as dictate their recording from speech to text. This would be a great way for our multilingual learners to share their voice. Our first grid is based on the book The Dot, in honor of Dot Day September 15th. We are encouraging learners to:
There are many standards-based activities using data from this event for Dot Day and Beyond! We are currently gathering lesson plan ideas to share with you to continue the learning beyond Dot Day. You already make such an incredible mark on every learner who walks through your door - let's see what they can do to make their mark! Dot Day Idea from Amanda Rogers, Mary Kemper and Jaime Parker
